How GACP Can Support Your Export Goals?

Better Pricing.

Access opportunities for better pricing in medical cannabis export markets, including Australia, the UK and the EU.

Long Term Supply Contracts.

Buyers prefer consistent supply from GACP companies over spot purchases to avoid supply delays and repeated, costly supplier qualification.

Lower Investment.

Bulk GACP cannabis shipments generally involve lower investments compared to finished products which require additional packaging, labeling for domestic markets

Path to EU-GMP:

GACP provides a foundation for future EU-GMP development and vertical integration, from cultivation to finished product packaging for export markets.

Tax Savings.

Exports may benefit from excise duty relief and favourable sales tax treatment, depending on country, state or jurisdiction.

Why GACP Matters for Medical Cannabis Exports

Good Agricultural and Collection Practice (GACP) guidelines, published by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), outline the practices cultivators must follow to meet GACP requirements. GACP covers cultivation, harvesting, collection and primary processing of medicinal plants.

GACP compliance is required when supplying bulk medicinal cannabis to EU-GMP processors, whether domestically or for export. Buyers require documented evidence of GACP compliance, which a GACP compliance certificate and supporting audit report provide as part of their supplier qualification process.

During the audit, your site is assessed against applicable GACP requirements, including:

  1. SOPs, personal hygiene, traceability and training.
  2. Calibration, sanitation and contamination control.
  3. Cultivation, primary processing, sampling, storage and testing.

Where GACP cannabis moves

Germany, the UK and Australia buy from GACP-certified growers in Canada, Portugal and Australia. U.S. cultivators can’t export yet, but buyers will expect the same documentation when that changes.

The export figure is the average landed value of Canadian flower shipped to Germany; it is shown because U.S. exports are not yet permitted. The pharmacy price includes import, EU-GMP processing, distribution and pharmacy margins, so it is not what the grower receives.

Export prices in Germany fell through 2025 and 2026 and vary with quality, cultivar and buyer. Converted at about US$0.71 per Canadian dollar and US$1.14 per euro. Figures compiled by CanSat from validated industry and regulator sources.

Frequently asked questions

1. What does the GACP audit assess?

The audit assesses your facilities, equipment, procedures, staff practices and records against applicable GACP requirements using our proprietary checklist covering 150+ points. This includes key areas such as cultivation, hygiene, sanitation, training, harvesting, packaging, sampling, testing, calibration and traceability.

2. How long does the audit take and when will we receive the report?

The onsite audit takes one day. Our auditors prepare and provide the non-conformance report within 2–3 weeks of the audit date. We recommend proactive communication and timely submission of supporting evidence to help expedite audit closure.

3. How much time do we have to submit our CAPA plan?

You have 60 days for an initial audit and 30 days for a renewal audit to submit your corrective and preventive action (CAPA) plan, starting from the date we provide the non-conformance report. Please contact us if you need a reasonable extension.

4. How long is a GACP certificate valid?

CanSat GACP certificates are valid for one year from the date of issuance. Renewal follows the same GACP audit process, and we offer discounted pricing for renewal clients.

5. Does purchasing a service tier guarantee GACP certification?

No. Certification depends on the audit outcome and satisfactory closure of audit findings. The SOP package and gap assessment can help you prepare for the audit but do not guarantee certification.

6. How are travel expenses charged?

Travel expenses are charged to you at cost, without any markup, and meals are charged at a per diem rate. We maintain transparency in all travel charges.

7. Why should we choose CanSat?

CanSat’s GACP audit program has been developed through extensive research and years of hands-on experience in cannabis quality and compliance.
